Hurricanes soccer players, Sabrina Molnar and Brandon Lund, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 21.
Molnar, a third-year winger from Ottawa, Ontario, scored twice on Saturday in the Hurricanes 2-0 win over the UNBSJ Seawolves. She followed this performance with an assist on Sunday in a 2-2 draw with the top-ranked, STU Tommies, to close out the regular season.
This season, Molnar has been a leader for the Hurricanes at both ends of the field. She’s scored six goals (fifth in the ACAA) while tallying 18 points (fourth in the ACAA) during the regular season; she’s also provided steadfast defensive play.
The ‘Canes finished the regular season with a record of 8-3-1 and in third place; they’ll face the MSVU Mystics at 10am on Saturday, October 27 in the ACAA semi-final game in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Lund, a second-year goalkeeper from Montague, Prince Edward Island, backstopped the Hurricanes to two victories at home this weekend.
First, on Saturday, Lund allowed just one goal against the UNBSJ Seawolves in a 2-1 victory at home, before shutting out the STU Tommies on Sunday in a 2-0 win.
Lund has played in all 12 games this season for the Hurricanes as they enter this weekend’s ACAA Championship as the number one seed; they’ll face the MSVU Mystics at 2:30pm on Saturday in Halifax in the conference semi-final match.
